MB
SERIES

Machining Range
The MB series are high capacity CNC machining centres designed for fast accurate and economical production of workpieces.
The fixed table/travelling column configuration enables long, heavy and
unwieldy components to be machined. Alternatively, gangs of smaller
components can be set up at workstations along the table.
The MB series provides manufacturing solutions to a wide variety of
otherwise costly and difficult machining problems. Set-up times are
reduced and costly machine to machine workpiece movements are eliminated by the
MB series ability to machine four sides of a component
at one set-up when fitted with a manual or automatic indexing head. Inverted
and angular faces can also be machined.
Modular design enables customers to specify their own table length and
choose from two column heights. For very large workpieces the fixed
table provides a load bearing capacity unrivalled by any other type of machine.

Column and Headslide
The column, which is mounted on the side of the saddle, is an extremely
stiff casting with diagonal ribbing and is available in two
heights. On the side farthest from the bed, the column is supported by a
bracket containing twin opposed pairs of pre-loaded linear bearings, which
run along a hardened and ground slideway attached to a heavy-duty floor mounted
beam.
The headslide incorporates two pairs of pre-loaded linear roller bearings
which run on hardened steel tracks in the column slideway nearest to the
to the bed. Other running surfaces are lined with an antifriction material to
assist positional accuracy.
Drive to the headslide vertical movement is by means of a brushless AC servomotor driving a preloaded recirculating ballscrew via a toothed belt.
The headslide balancing mechanism is hydraulic. With the piston stroke being
half the headslide travel, optimum balance is obtained due to minimum
oil pressure variation in the short stroke cylinder.
Steel telescopic covers are fitted above the headslide with a telescopic ballscrew guard below. All slideway lubrication is automatic from a central system.
The feed drive to the ram is by a brushless AC servomotor driving a preloaded recirculating ballscrew via a toothed belt.
The ram slideways are located diagonally across the corners for maximum
stiffness and rigidity. All axis measurements are by independent linear
transducers.
