MAKE
BIG PROFITS WITH BIG CUTS
RAM
The ram is designed to give optimum cutting performance under all conditlons. The casting is heavily ribbed
for maximum resistance to deflection and the diagonal slideways are case hardened and ground and provided
with autornatic lubrications. The ram is held against two large surfaces in the headslide by diagonal keepstrips.
Strength and rigidity are assured even with the ram fully extended.
The Z axis drive is by a brushless AC servo motor driving a pre-loaded recirculating ballscrew via a toothed belt.
Measurement is by independent linear transducer. An ISO5O spindle is mounted in heavy-duty angular contact
bearings and driven from a 30kw AC motor with integral two-speed gearbox through hardened and ground
gears. A power drawbar and self lubrication system are provided.
The ram illustrated offers spindle speeds from 20 to 2000 rpm in two automatically selected ranges. An alter-
native speed range can be supplied.
Ram oil cooling is standard on both rams to reduce thermal deformation with air blast on the 2000 mm unit and
refrigeration for the higher speed ram.
Alternative spindle speeds are available to suit customers' special requirements.
Bed and Saddle
The bed is an extremely stiff and rigid casting. The top surface constitutes the worktable and contains six tee slots. Two tee
slots are provided on the front vertical surface to enable auxiliary bed sections, guarding and other attachments to be mounted.
The long, well-proportioned saddle is side-mounted on a heavy-duty vee section slideway; with large cortact area to ensure good
sliding characteristics, maximum rigidity and long life. The slideways are faced with a special low friction material and automatically
lubricated to provide high positional accuracy.
Feed drive to the saddle in beds up to 8m long is by means of a heavy duty pre-loaded recirculating ballscrew driven by a brushless
AC servo motor via a toothed belt. Axis measurernent is by means of an independent linear transducer.
The whole slideway system is protected by strong steel telescopic covers.
The feed drive to the saddle on machines with bed lengths over 8m is from a brushless AC servo motor driving through worm reduction
and gearing to twin pinions which engage with a rack mounted on the side of the bed. The small, stiff pinions are mounted close to
the slideways for maximum driving efficiency. An anti-backlash mechanism is incorporated in the gearing to ensure positional accuracy.
Axis measurement is by means of an independent linear transducer.
