New Transformer Trailer (February, 2012)

Redmond Gary Australia has just delivered the first Transformer Trailer, designed in conjunction with one of the major western New South Wales electricity authorities. This trailer has been adapted from a standard 1-Tonne self loading cable drum trailer and can be used for carrying drums of cable or with the conversion kit, can be used for carrying transformers. The trailer is equipped with DC power pack to load and unload new transformers and can be towed with a 1-Tonne utility or small vehicle. The unit is also equipped with a special oil-proof cubicle which meets the environmental requirements for transportation of old transformers that may be leaking oil.

The unit is intended to transport a new transformer to site. The cubicle has a top opening lid. The old transformer is taken down from the pole with the aid of a crane, placed into the cubicle and tied in place with straps and special tie-down points designed to accept a range of different types of transformers. The cubicle lid is then closed and secured. The new transformer is lifted off the back of the trailer carrier mechanism with a single point locking mechanism and placed on the pole in place of the old unit.

All transformer carrying devices are fixed to the trailer with the aid of quick release pins and can be easily removed enabling the trailer to become a drum transporter once again.

The trailer is of light weight construction and incorporates unique airbag suspension and pivot arms. The complete trailer is powder-coated blue with aluminium checker plate trim.
