Redmond Gary Australia Continues Their Lean Journey (September, 2012)

On Wednesday 29th August, Queensland Manufacturing Institute (QMI Solutions) arranged a factory tour for all senior Redmond Gary staff to visit the workshops of PTE Hydraulics. Redmond Gary Australia has been working with QMI Consultants for more than two years to implement Lean Manufacturing techniques including 5S and value stream mapping. As PTE Hydraulics have been working with QMI for quite a few more years than Redmond Gary, it was a good opportunity for our staff to have a look at another workshop, their 5S policies, value stream mapping to make it easier to run a workshop and at the same time maintaining high quality and minimise supervision due to good visual aids and systems. All of our staff got quite a lot out of the experience and discussions the next day proved that they were more motivated to implement lean technologies into Redmond Gary Australia.

Redmond Gary Australia has come a long way in the last two years focusing on 5S and workshop layout. However, we are well aware that we are only just in the early stages of this project. To assist our staff with management change and implementation of Lean, all of our foremen have been enrolled in Certificate IV in Manufacturing Technology. In addition to this, our production manager and after sales, service & spare parts manager have undertaken external studies to complete a Diploma of Business Management. All of this additional training goes hand in hand with modern manufacturing techniques. The ultimate goal is to bring Redmond Gary Australia in line with world’s best practice.
