Redmond Gary Australia, in conjunction with Tunnelec, has designed two custom-made 2.3T Drum Stands, each with a drum capacity of 1650mm outside diameter and 1200mm wide, and weighing up to 2300kgs.

The Drum Stands are provided with a friction-type drum rotator, together with electric-powered hydraulic power packs with pendant control. The drum stand and power pack will be installed onto a rail wagon that will be used to lay temporary power cables in tunnels.

The equipment had to meet strict design criteria to comply with the tunnel specifications. The same equipment will be used to place and recover cables that will be used to power the Tunnel Boring Machines for the tunnel construction.
