40 Years At RGA – February 2025

Neville Morrison, our production co-ordinator, has been with RGA for 40 years. He was first employed as a boilermaker but was soon discovered to be an exceptional employee who was able to reduce the amount of time the company had been spending on some jobs by 50 percent.

Although he was quite young at the time, he was promoted to foreman at our Bailey Crescent workshop where we built mining equipment such as large trolleys and winches. He worked very closely with Andrew and Reg Danks to build a CNC plasma cutter. In addition, he was involved with the manufacture of our cable trailers and soon he had mastered hydraulic systems.

Neville worked closely with design engineers to build the first MEWP model TF13M. He soon moved from the workshop to the design office working alongside engineers to complete complex drawings. Nev is one of only a few people within our company who can both design and manufacture a piece of equipment that is functional, simple to make, and looks good.

Neville also designed a two-stage hydraulic cylinder for use in our PoleERU. The design is an engineering marvel with an extremely complex design enabling each stage to be independently controlled from one end of the cylinder. The cylinder works perfectly and Andrew Danks doesn’t think there are many engineers who could design and manufacture a cylinder of this type today. Many very experienced engineers have had trouble understanding the design and how it works without us providing colour hydraulic flow drawings and detailed explanations. All this was achieved by Neville who is a self-taught engineer.

Because Neville has a good understanding of the whole workshop from concept design through to finished product, he was been put in charge of our MRP system and has developed many Excel spreadsheets to assist with production control. Neville continues to run our MRP system and advise on new software for RGA. He also checks all engineering drawings before they are released for production.

Neville not only is one of our longest serving employees, but he also one of the most capable employees at Redmond Gary Australia.
