Fortescue takes delivery of EV 3.5t Self Loading Cable Trailer- March 2026

The 96V Electric Power Take Off (e-PTO) is a self contained power and hydraulic drive system designed for mobile and off highway machinery. The system replaces a conventional engine driven PTO or diesel engine with an inverter controlled electric motor powered from an integrated 96V DC battery system. Electrical energy stored in the battery is converted by an inverter to drive an electric motor, which mechanically drives a hydraulic pump to supply flow and pressure to auxiliary hydraulic functions. Depending on configuration, the system may also provide onboard battery charging and an AC power output for running power tools or auxiliary equipment.

The e-PTO’s onboard control system is powered by a 12V battery which is independent of the 96V circuit. Allowing the unit or operator to isolate the 96V circuit without disabling the control system. The 12V battery charge is maintained by an external solar panel connected via a solar charging unit connected to the e-PTO’s 12V Anderson plug located on the back panel. There is also a backup DCDC charger function via the 3300kW AC to DC charger, that will charge the battery in the event the solar power is unable to maintain the state of charge required. This function will operate automatically as the charger monitors the state of the charge. Note that this will only occur when the unit is powered on and the 96V battery is not being charged.

In addition, the 12V control circuit there is also a 24V auxiliary power circuit which provides power to the externally via the 24V Anderson plug located on the rear panel. The 24V circuit is also used to power internal components including the cooling fan and inverter. The 24V circuit is powered by a 96V to 24V 1500W DCDC converter.

The battery can be recharged from 240V outlet and the battery capacity is 15kWh with a peak electric power up to 14kW and continuous power rating of 8kW.

When the battery is fully charged the trailer can load and unload a 3500kg drum more than 100 times before the battery reaches 20%, at which time the trailer should be packed up and recharged.
