Cable Drum Transporter (July, 2010)

Redmond Gary Australia has designed and manufactured another new product – the Cable Drum Transporter. Concept drawings were developed at the end of 2009 and two units were ready for delivery to a major electricity authority by the end of July, 2010. Considering this is a completely new piece of equipment, the design and build time was relatively short. Some of the features of this machine are as follows:

  • Live drive PTO making it possible to lay cable while driving down the road at a speed of up to 5km per hour
  • Ergonomic design making it possible to operate all functions from ground level during cable laying operations
  • Radio control of drum rotator and drum rotation speed
  • Remotely operated disc brake
  • Easy access to tray via three sets of slide-out steps
  • Three spindles supplied ndash; 2 x lightweight and 1 x heavy full load capacity
  • Drum capacity up to 9500kg
  • Hydraulically extendable arms on both sides of the truck for cable laying to the sides
  • Suitable roller systems for laying cable both sides of the truck and from the rear
  • Drum module power rotation 110° both directions
  • Drum module mounted on flexible fish plates allowing the truck chassis to flex when driving over rough terrain.
