A major transmission line project is well under way in Adelaide. The Adelaide central reinforcement 275kV transmission line project is on track for energisation in December 2011.
The project provides a route from Torrens Island power station to planned Keswick Substation comprising three phase 275kV circuit with an integral condition monitoring system, distributed temperature sensing equipment and an earth bonding system.
This major infrastructure project is being carried out by multi-utility infrastructure civil engineering company, Diona in conjunction with South Korean cable manufacturer, LS Cable and Taihan. As part of this project, cables will be laid in conduits for a length of 5000 metres. To utilise this, Diona is using Redmond Gary Australia’s cable pushers. Diona has purchased a large number of pushers which are utilised in several states of Australia.
The sheer size and scale of this project poses an inherent challenge, according to Diona. The job is split into 28 sections averaging 670 metres each in length, limited by the length of the cable on each drum weighing approx. 27 tonnes.
Redmond Gary Australia is proud to be a supplier to Diona. More detailed information can be found in the May/June edition of Energy Source and Distribution Magazine (Photo courtesy of Diona).
