New Design All Angle Fairlead assembly to suit 35kN Bull Wheel Winch (November, 2015)

In 2013 SA Power Networks was supplied with two 35kN Bull Wheel Winches with extended drop down fair lead assembly for hauling underground cable through ducts. Both machines were very well received by the workers and have been in high demand for depots in North and South Adelaide.

SA Power Networks recently approached Redmond Gary Australia requesting a new design for the drop down fair lead assembly for a trailer that would be suitable for use in inner city areas, specifically in narrow laneways and areas where there is extremely limited access. RGA’s engineering department came up with a unique design which folds away to the side of the trailer when not in use and allows hauling at any angle from the rear of the trailer. The optional sheave assembly has increased the versatility of the 35kN Bull Wheel Winch when access is required in tight locations.

In addition to the new fair lead assembly, SA Power Networks also wanted the option to change the rope on the winch giving them the choice to haul with fibre rope or non-rotating wire rope. The storage reel on the assembly was redesigned to make it easy to remove the drum without the use of special tools and replace the drum when required.

We have kept the weight of this unit low enough so that it can be towed behind a light truck or ute, further cementing its usefulness in limited access areas and tight locations.

This unit also features radio remote with built-in display showing line pull, distance and speed. The units were also provided with an auxiliary set of controls at the winch. Controls are via switches and touch screen including a diagnostic system and built in data logger. The information from the data logger can be easily downloaded onto laptop or USB.

The main storage drum has been provided with a disc brake to prevent run-on in the case the cable is being pulled out directly from a storage drum. The winches are designed to take up to 900m of non-rotating wire or fibre rope.
