Redmond Gary delivered special cable handling trailers to WDS for the L&G Coalsteam Gas project near Miles. This is the second 10 tonne drum stand trailer WDS has purchased. WDS were working closely with Redmond Gary’s engineers to come up with a new concept towing a 10 tonne drum stand trailer, which in turn, is towing a 3 tonne self loading cable drum trailer. Heavy power cables drums weighing up to 9500 kg are installed onto the larger drum stand trailer, which is equipped with road train braking system and rear mounted tow coupling.

A second 3 tonne self loading cable trailer is connected. Both trailers are pushed by a Caterpillar Challenger Tractor and are equipped with cable feed systems that can be fed at either side of the trailer. Heavy power cables and fibre optic cables are installed simultaneously into open trenches at speeds of up to 5km p/hr. The new system is very efficient and would be ideal for many similar applications.
